Training for max reps contest

I am going on 57 and quit heavy lifting about 10-12 years, it became too hard on my body because I have always played basketball twice a week and still do. My son got me involved in a pump and run event which I really enjoyed training for last summer.The reps do not seem to tear me down so muchanad do not bother shoulder and wrist injuries from bball. I have not found too many articles on what works best for this type of training. I have read go 30-40% with 50-100 reps or ick your target weight and just do super sets. Looking for suggestions, keeping in mind my age.
