The powerlifting bar is slightly bigger in diameter. Most olympic bars have a lot more spring which is a big disadvantage in the powerlifts accept the deadlift.(RDC came up with the idea of deadlifting on an olympic bar to add 3-5% on the lift). Olympic lifts will make you a lot faster and more explosive in the squat and deadlift. I do the pentathlon in Masters Track(LJ, discus, 200m, javelin, 1500m). After 1-2 months of olympic lifts I can usually see a response in contact time with the ground in sprints and jumps.
