Nutrition and BEEF

Okay, so I'm starting to look seriously into the nutritional side of lifting now (NO .. not like a body builder, but still, I'm not interested in having a pilsbury doughboy stomach).

One key thing I'm seeing from all of my reading, is that its good to up meals to 5 times a day, and try to get at least 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. With this in mind, I'm trying to make my non-main-meal snacks protein based. Any ideas? Ireally don't want to buy protein shakes.

One thing I'm trying and liking (but am not sure if it is really good or not) is making home-made beef jerky from lean sirloin. I can get lean beef nice and cheap where I'm at (the packaged stuff seems to be all fat).

So, even though I'm doing it at home from lean sirloin, I can't really tell how much protein, carbs and fat I'm getting from the stuff. Anyone have any ideas about this? Thanks.
