Megan,

It might interest you to know that the weightlifter featured in the NY Times today has also recently secured sponsorship by McDonalds. You'll notice the Roach family having a Mickey D's treat in the NYT video--not an everyday thing, but a special treat. As you would suspect, cheesburgers are not a staple in her diet at this time. But she is a fan of several of the salads.

I don't know the exact details of how the sponsorship deal came about, but I'm sure Mel would be happy to tell you how it happened after the trials. I think her agent was instrumental in the process. Who knows, maybe we will see her on packaging or in a commercial. It was certainly a blessing for her family to have the extra financial help.

The AP and NPR are also going to do stories on Melanie in the near future. I'm sure after this article, she will have additional sponsorship opportunities.
