Many folks asked me if I have a footage of Grigory Novak lifts and I had to say that I have never seen him lifting. It kinda bothered me because Novak was such a 3-dimensional personality and a really milestone athlete not only in Olympic weightlifting but in all sports in the Soviet Union.

I launched a mini campaign to find the footage with Novak via my old colleagues from the Russian TV and so far not too much success with this. We'll see...

Here is just a tid bid from a French newsreel covering the highlights of the 1946 World Championship where the Soviets competed for the first time ever. The footage covers quiet a few OWL legends besides Novak - Ibrahim Shams (Egypt), John Davis (USA), Mahmoud Fayad (Egypt), Mahmoud Namjou (Iran), Stanley Stanczyk (USA), John Terpak (USA) and more:
