In the past, USAW was part of the USOC's "Joint Marketing" program. As such, they got a cut of all the sponsors. But I have heard this is going away, or may already have been discontinued.
Some of the larger NGBs have decided they were better off going it alone. This obvious dilutes the value of sponsoring the USOC. If Weightlifting were to win lots of Olympic Medals and had 50,000+ members, we might be able to get a high profile sponsor.

One of the problems with this program is that the USOC gives sponsors a class. So Coke is the Official Soft Drink (or some such broad category) Sponsor. They also own Minute Maid, so the have juices covered and Powerade, which covers Sports Drinks. I'm not sure if energy drinks are taken, but doesn't Coke have something out there like Red Bull?
