not only that, but in the heat of battle on the highest stage he is simply outstanding as a competition coach.
Case in point... the 1988 Olympic Trials in Boca Raton, Florida. Tony Urrutia missed his first two snatches and was in danger of bombing out and not making the Olympic Team. John Terpak of York Barbell in a state onf near panic ran up to Jim and pratically begged him to help out Tony. Jim in his calm and deliberate manner did just that. Calming down Tony, getting him to refocus and put the two misses behind him, Tony went out and nailed his third attempt and went on to make that Oly Team.
And if that isn't enough, do we need to revisit Mario Martinez in Los Angeles in 1984, going 6 for 6, making pr snatches and clean and jerk for a silver medal... losing the gold to an inspired and fired up Dean Lukin by only 2 1/2 kilos. Mario's performance with Jim guiding him the whole way may just have been America's best clutch performance in Olympic Games history.
If we have to have this High Performance Tsar, then my vote goes for Jim "TOC" Schmitz.

PS... what say you, Butch Curry
