I'd rank throwing and hitting a curve ball higher in difficulty than the clean & jerk. The degree of difficulty in learning a sport doesn't seem to hinder recruiting for golf or tennis or basketball.

But on the peer participation angle, learning weightlifting in America is like trying to learn baseball while living in the U.K. or learning to play cricket in U.S.
