This survey bears out what most of us here know by observation.

The more interesting question is, "Why?"

My hypothesis, which appears to correlate with the shown data, is that interest and participation are directly proportional to the difficulty of the sport, athough this trend is probably somewhat mitigated by peer participation.

So, my theory becomes, if ways to increase peer influence are brought to bear, participation will increase.
