In Response To: York Bumper Set (Dustin Charles)

Dustin,

I have been able to use York's newest training bar in my weight room for about 1 year. This is the same bar that Mike describes and it is made in Canada. The bar has great spin. The width between the inner collars is slightly wider (about 4") making the 2" sleeves slightly shorter than the standard Olympic bar. This is of no concern to me or any one I regularly train at the high school, but it will be if I ever get anyone to clean in the 180kg range. The bar is just long enough to get 4x20kg plates on each sleeve with a spring clip. Additionaly, the knurling is quite a bit different from other bars. It is comfortable but just a bit slick. This can be a problem for athletes with sweaty hands or during the snatch.

I do think it is a very good bar for training purposes. It is much better than the bars that were recalled. From what I understand, the training bars that were recalled were made in China. York abandoned that idea and went to Canada for this bar. I would rate the bar as a 8 mostly because of the knurling differences.
