Dear James:
Many, many talented and successful business professionals on this forum and who are members of this sport hold the opinion this sport has downward spiraled and many cite the current BOD and both present and recent past administrators responsible for this downturn.
The numbers and lack of results over the past several years prove this. Read the last 5 years of BOG Meeting Reports and Financials. Knowing the structures and results of many other successful organizations (both for-profit and not-for-profit), this organization fails by comparison. Look at other NGBS - USA Swimming, USA Gymnastics, etc. Look at Boys & Girls Clubs, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, etc. These are examples of organizations, USAW should be following the lead of yet several of their BOD and leaders choose not to routinely.
Why? Fear of losing stature, fear of losing resume building titles, fear of growing this organization? If it is not ignorance, the only other choice is stupidity.
This organization could be so much more effective and run so much more efficiently with a fraction of the resources. So many talented volunteers who could accomplish so much without having to pay an employee to, yet USAW shirks them. Many on this forum as well as myself have offered numerous times to step in or offered advice or assistance to improve this organization. It is very difficult to help those who do not want to be helped. Ignorance, stupidity, laziness - call it what you want. The results prove it.
