I've no personal experience with Chiropractors, but know of two weightlifters/powerlifters who have used in the past, one with good and one with very bad experiences. I think Mark is right, a good referral is key, in the same way that there are good Surgeons and bad ones there are good and bad with other health professionals. I've had very good experience with Osteopaths and Physical therapists in the past (I've a friend who is qualified as both and seems to take what he thinks is best from both.)
