We are said to be the world's "melting pot" especially after centuries of immigration, so there would seem to be huge genetic diversity here.
Or is it that our people aren't as mentally driven as others? Someone suggested that the best distance runners are strict vegetarians.
The Tarahumara Indians of Mexico are said to not be warmed up in a run till they've logged 50 miles. They are legendary for multi-day runs. But maybe a marathon is too brief.
The best sled dogs have 6x the oxygen uptake of the most capable human runners.
