You make an interesting point Kim.

I would say that marathon running in the U.S. probably has it's own, different issues. Too much pop science in our training? Too many fat runners? 400,000 people competed in marathons last year, but how many were there only for survival or fat loss and had no intention of trying to run a fast time? I'm not sure what the reason would be.
