response to feedback about my 'naive' comments

naivete...wow! how can you characterize my comments as naive when all i am doing is standing up for what is right/wrong...it is not brain surgery here, but rather a simple matter that of the different worlds of lifting that are in existence and that you seem NAIVE not to believe exist. I have seen world champions from bulgaria off the juice lifting at our local french meets--terrific lifter, tough as nails, yes---but about 40kgs below their best--two months later, they are breaking world records.
i tire of repeating the same anecdotes over and over again but my friend romuald ernault from the french team who has lifted 150/170 as a 69kgs lifter once had a conversation with the one americans worship so much, galabin boevski, at a bulgarian training camp. here's the way it went:the elite of the french team had been invited to train with the bulgarian team in bulgaria since our coach was bulgarian and used to work for abadjev as a youth recruiter (he was the one who recruited blagoev)--the tension between the two teams was high--french lifters were NOT impressed with the bulgarians and were not kissing ass, because they know the deal...anyways, they were still trying to strike up a converstation with the bulgarians but it was not easy. the bulgarians, simply put, had NO respect for the french.
my buddy is watching boevski snatching 150 kgs with some difficulty-he is having a tough day...my buddy was 67kgs or less that day and he comes out and smokes 140kgs in the snatch...my buddy had WORLD CLASS technique...boevski came up to my buddy and congratulated him and asked him if he was taking steroids...my friend replied that he was not.boevski was surprised and told him that he would be a world champion if he were on it---that's the NAIVE truth Nick.
truth is not naive nick, it is simply put, the truth...i don't care if bulgarians don't have anything to eat or whatever and have to take juice to compete and survive and all the other harsh social realities that make being from that part of eastern europe very difficult..then you know what, have the 'dirty' olympics and the 'clean' olympics!!!!!! or is that too NAIVE for you Nick.
Now as for the comments about americans don't have heart and all that crap---jeff michaels trained with me, with us, with steve gough at the training center for two years---he was an animal, a true champion...he has snatched 187.5 as a 110kgs lifter in his prime when he was 22 years old and, he will tell you if you ask him, he was DIRTY--was he very dirty, no, but he was taking steroids nonetheless!!!! well jeff did 160/200 as a super in his mid 30's at that time and he was damn proud of it---and you know what, he can tell all you naysayers and negative folks who look down upon the american kids busting their asses, he will tell you one thing about the people who trained with him:
me, john tremblay, jasha faye...we were champions too, we never backed down, we worked hard, and we had a LOT of pride and determination...and we were just lowly american lifters training with a former superstar...yeah, just lowly, naive lifters who only wanted to work hard and make progress...and we did not look down on people that juiced, but we only asked that if you were on it that 1) you lift big weights and 2) be honest about the fact that you are on the sauce.and Nick, i remember you coming by and training with us and you felt that drive we all had did you not, and you made progress, remember...well to all you naysayers and haters, there were about ten of us with huge hearts in that gym, and we were just a bunch of normal people from the bay area, and we believed---and each one of us could look into the eyes of jeff michaels, or a dirty world champion and not feel less than that person...
remember that the eastern europeans you so worship have very little respect for us---they think we are stupid for lifting clean and finishing 27th at the worlds, AND, if we come close to beating them, well then, they say: 'he is dirty.' that is the NAIVE truth.
the frenchman...
