Joe - Thanks for posting this. Smitty was a good friend and a good man. I took several trips with Smitty and spent a lot of time with him in the 70's.
Another interesting tidbit was when in the late 90's the Jr. Olympics were in Columbus, I think. I stopped at a motel on the edge of town and I saw a familiar face. It was Smitty. I aksed him if he was there for the lifting. He didn't know about the lifting; he and friends had stopped there and were on a cross-country motorcylce trip. WHAT WERE THE ODDS??
