Longevity vs. P.R.s and A.R.s?

*** In 1997, Shelton Gilyard, Oscar Chaplin and Shane Hamman ALL became Sr. Nat'l. Champs, for the first time. One of the 3 is STILL a Nat'l. Champ! ..All 3 had LONG careers, but 2 of the 3, (Shelton & Shane) avoided serious injuries! ..I'm thinking, they KNEW how much their bodies could handle and didn't go past that point!
... Did Oscar get injured at the Goodwill Games when he made his 360 total [STILL the A.R for the 85s]. Was it in training? Was it only his patellar tendons/knees? ..Whatever it was, he was never the same, afterwards.... Five Women who have had LONG careers are: Melanie Roach, Jackie Berube, Carissa Gump, Cara Heads, and Cheryl Haworth. Amazingly, they're ALL CURRENTLY Nat'l. Champs! ..Now 4 of the 5 are at or near, their BEST! ..Melanie Roach made 189 twice in 2007 and can STILL jerk OVER double bodyweight. Jackie made 194 at the 2008 Seniors. Carissa Gump made a 120 A.R. (63 kg. Class) at the 2007 A.O., and repeated it at the 2008 Seniors. Cara Heads' 206 (2008 Sr. Nats.) was NEARLY triple bodyweight [2.99+]. But our Superstar, Cheryl, has run into trouble!
... She made a BIG 280 (6 for 6?) at the 2007 Seniors. She may have gotten injured at that meet or soon afterwards. But, she has been taking it easy since then. She weighed more than her best C+J at the 2008 Seniors. ..Can she recover enough to medal at the 2008 Olympics? I sure hope so!... Innocent Ukpong came back from injuries to win HIS FIRST Sr. Nat'l. Championships. Perhaps you noticed that he "Clarked" his 3rd attempt C+J. SMART! ..He had earned golds in both lifts and had WON, so why take unnecessary chances? NEVER take unnecessary chances, whether you're recovering from injuries or not! NEVER be ashamed to pass your 3rd-attempt! I think Robert Murphy would back me up on this!
... Shane Hamman STILL holds all the Shvy. Sr. A.R.s. He was our Nat'l. Champ for 9 years (?) STRAIGHT! ..Had a nice long career; practically injury-free. ..However, Shane improved to a certain Level and stayed there! ..He evidently QUIT TRYING to improve! Yeah, he has been criticised on this forum for that. ..But, you know, IMO, he did the SMART thing!
