Speaking of steaks this brings to mind a story that I will share with the readers. In '63-'64 when I was living in the home that my brother and I were buying from our aunt and training in the old garage that some of the pictures that has been shown here before were taken, we had a school friend that lived there with us.
He was the assistant Manager of the A&P Grocery store that was around the next block from our house. About 3-4 times a week he would bring us a big box full of steaks and we would put them in our freezer. We had that freezer full of steaks and my aunt would come over quiet often to check on us and she would freak out when she opened it up. Sometimes she would cook them (Broil) for us and I would ask her to cook me about 5 each time. She would go nuts saying that I ate like grizzly bear or a big fat hog.
She was very good to us though and would come and clean up the place and all the while saying while she did it we lived like a bunch of hogs. Well she was right and we deserved the lip slashing she gave us. That place was the training post for me and that was all I thought about and any other thing that was associated with the place was secondary to me.
One time I had left some leftovers in the fridge that had grown penicillin and man did that set her on fire! God love her heart!
I did take the criticism well and started to clean up my act some so we wouldn't get the continued tongue lashing from her.
I miss those good old days and the friends that would come over and watch us train at that place. We had a great time living there. We, brother and I sold it back to her and went out ways getting married. But, lifting was still my number one priority through the following years.
