"Ask yourself this, if Reza grew up and trained in Alexejev's era, do you think he would be better than Alexejev? Do you think if we brought Alexejev forward to train in the modern era, he would be better? Of course answers to these questions are impossible to answer."

What are the advantages of the modern era? Not drugs-- testosterone has been available since the 1940s. Not nutrition or health--I've personally seen Halil Mutlu put down an entire plate of bonbons and smoke a pack a day (even between snatch and CJ sessions). Not technique: there have good snatchers since at least Dave Shepherd, so SHWs in Alexeyev's era could have had better snatches. In our admiration of these old-time athletes, does no one question the unseemliness of snatching 180-odd kilos with a 250 CJ?

The difference is probably between the high-volume approach of older times and the low-volume, high-intensity approach of today.

Anyway, none of this should be taken to construe that I have something against Alexeyev or his fans. When I'm 50, I'm sure I'll be talking about my era's lifters and arguing why they were better!
