A week late, but here's my take:
The Reno meet was more up to the standard of NATIONAL event than the majority of USAW meets I've been to since the 80's. Here's a few whys:
-- judges should never be given obstructive seating/tables, unless the kind of bleachers/stage used in Reno allow a great view to all the spectators. It also helps that they had the kind of backdrop that enhanced photography, unlike those that make some singlets (or even skin tones) disappear.
-- loaders should be nowhere near the view of cameras when the lifter is performing. Reno was outstanding in this regard (w/ only minor violations of the best possible practice).
-- medals were awarded in the proper order (starting w/ 6th, ending w/ 1st), as is now also the Olympic standard, reversing the anti-climactic order of the past.
-- finally, the event is named properly, and in a way that enhances its prestige. "National Collegiates (Juniors, School-Age, etc.)" has been the poor-English-detracting name since way back. In all other sports, "National Champion(ship)" never has interrupting adjectives -- qualifiers only go on the front. It just sounds better.
Well done Reno!!
