That was a heartwarming story.

I have, as I'm sure many here have, lived to see similar cycles with my pets. I feel for you.

It might seem silly to some, but the love of and for a pet is a very special thing, and the loss of a pet can evoke a correspondingly special kind of pain. My dad was a veterinarian, and in his office I saw that when it was time for a pet to depart this world, many people, including the toughest tough guys, were reduced to sobbing wrecks.

Pets, especially dogs, offer a love that is unconditional and constant. Sometimes, pets are even profoundly heroic, even to the point of sacrificing their own well-being or life. It's a magic thing, and a gift to be cherished.
