I'm with Tracy on this one. Point (by Kim, I think) taken that it's easier to hand someone a print copy of a magazine, but how much is that happening anyway? Enough to warrant the extremely high costs of print publishing that limit the productiveness of USAW's spendable income? My guess would be not nearly. And yes, much digital media goes forgotten, but I'd actually venture to say that there is a huge paradigm shift occuring presently that is very quickly making that history.
As the former owner and manager of an indy book publishing company and publisher/managing editor/EIC/etc. of 2 past and 1 current digital magazine/journal (The Performance Menu), I feel qualified to make the claim that media of this type are neither fleeting nor second-class, but instead the impending replacements for much of their present print counterparts. Cost reduction alone (not only for printing, but for warehousing, shipping, staff, etc.) is enough to make this the case, but consider additionally the features associable and exclusive to the digital format such as video and forums.
For many of us, and for increasingly more of us, digital is the standard now, not print, and it would be wise for USAW to at least seriously consider the move Tracy suggests.
