GoHeavy Readers:
It would be great, especially for members of the media who are interested in covering this sport, if USA Weightlifting would have all the back issues of Weightlifting USA available on its website. Let me show you how we're doing this with my magazine, which has published many articles about US weightlifting coaches and athletes.
If you go to our Website, www.biggerfasterstronger.com, click on the title "Get Archives," which will show you thumbnails of all our past issues (since 1982!). If you click on the cover of a specific magazine, you will be taken to the table of contents for each issue, and by clicking on the title you can read the article for FREE.
We're still working on many of the issues, such as the earliest issues and the ones published within the past two years, but here are a few weightlifting-related articles you can access now that you might find of interest:
Jim Schmitz, Spring 2002
Shane Hammon, Spring 2003
Marty Schnorf (and Amy Miller), Summer 2003
Carl Miller, Fall 2003
Dan John, Winter 2003There are also two articles about weight training for young athletes that you might find of interest. One was published in the Spring of 2002 and discusses the myth of growth plate injuries in young weightlifters, and the second was published in the Summer of 2004 which provides 124 references (most peer-reviewed) about weight training for young athletes.
We also have a search function at the top of the page if you don't know the specific issue date of an article.
Again, we're currently working on getting all the issues archived. Most of the articles published in the past two years will probably put in PDF format, appearing exactly as they did in the magazine, so you may have to download free software to do this.
It doesn't appear that the designers of Weightlifting USA were making PDF files of all the articles. I say this because even this year the designers were sending the front office bluelines (which is an older technology that increases the price of production). In that case, as we did with many of our past issues, they will have to manual recreate the articles (as we did, which is a pain) or scan them.
If this service is not included in the price of website design, USA Weightlifting can possibly make back its money by charging for each download.
Thank you,
Kim Goss
