Butch - Boy, you got me there. I have only stated here about 10 times that I voted to hire Wes. But, someone in Timbuktu may have missed it. YES, I VOTED TO HIRE WES. I WAS A STRONG SUPPORTER. I DID NOT WANT TO GRANT HIM OR ANY OTHER EMPLOYEE MORE THAN A ONE YEAR CONTRACT, THOUGH. I have admitted I was wrong, and do so again.
WE may disagree on some things. You think that Wes, with his 3 years+ of experience, will do a bang-up job at USOC. I am not as sure.
You may remember exact qualifications of the candidates better than I do, or maybe you knew some of them. I did think there were other well qualified candidates. However, sometimes a resume and reality differ. I assume Wes' resume for his job at USOC might not have reflected your opinion (or mine.) Some people look better on paper than they turn out to be. For example, Wes could say he "helped promote and start the "Winterfest." He helped install two new USAW websites and was instrumental in getting the first ever webcast of a USAW event. He helped run multiple national meets and the Olympic Trials. He is mentioned in the recent Forbes magazine, for heaven's sake. All true.
To me, with Dennis you have a known quantity. I would assume that while you werer an athlete's rep, you made some votes that you turned out to regret. While we are on the subject of past actions/comments, etc.,did you ever come up with that list of 10+ businessmen who will take over on the BOD, are not obligated to anyone and have no conflicts, and who will spend hours and hours per month helping run our sport, flying to national meets, answering e-mails, etc? We would, of course, prefer ones with MBA's. Just list the top 6 or 8 you came up with over the last 2-3 years since I asked you.
Thanks. I will be waiting with bated breath for the list. - Marty
