In Response To: Dennis Snethen and the ED job, etc. (Marty Schnorf)

Since you mentioned me by name, I will tell you what my problem with hiring ANYONE currently involved with USA Weightlifting (Notice I never mentioned Dennis by name or anyone else). And I never said hire "someone with a business background - perhaps an accountant". As I said in a post below:

"It should be abundantly clear that we need to go outside of our little Weightlifting Family and hire a PROFESSIONAL SPORTS ADMINISTRATOR."

By Professional Sports Administrator, I mean people with these backgrounds:

Sports Management
Sports Marketing
College or University Athletic Director (or Assistant)
Former/Current Executive Directors of other NGBs, Athletic Teams or Conferences.

I am unaware of anyone currently involved with USA Weightlifting that fits that description. Last time, the BOD went for a "Weightlifting Person" that was extremely under qualified. AND LOOK HOW THAT TURNED OUT!

So all can remember, here's a copy of the (Formerly) Posted Executive Director Job Description:

"EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & CEO

USA Weightlifting
Colorado Springs, Colorado

USA Weightlifting, recognized by the US Olympic Committee (USOC) as the sole National Governing Body for the Olympic Sport of Weightlifting in the US, is seeking an aggressive and energetic CEO/Executive Director. The new CEO will be charged with increasing membership, improving educational outreach and enhancing the fund raising of the organization responsible for developing Gold Medallists in the sport of Weightlifting.

The successful candidate will posses excellent communication skills, management ability, and financial skills in sports marketing, fund raising, budget planning and management. The CEO reports to the USAW Board of Directors through the Board President, works closely with the Treasurer on financial matters, and exercises general management control over the day-to-day operations of the organization, including weightlifting activities on grounds at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

A bachelor's degree and a minimum five years experience in sports management and administration required. An MBA or equivalent, additional experience preferred. Management experience in Olympic weightlifting, professional sports, or other Olympic sports, and knowledge of the US Olympic Committee, International Weightlifting Federation and International Olympic Committee rules a plus.

Please mail (no phone calls please) a cover letter, resume and three letters of recommendation to:

USA Weightlifting
Executive Director Application
One Olympic Plaza
Colorado Springs, CO 80909

Competitive salary and benefits, with a unique opportunity for compensation growth as the organization grows. USAW is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer."
