It's funny you should say that...I was at the Mogadishu (or, as everyone there called it, the "Mog") Airport during the Rangers' fated battle. Sizemore plays Colonel (then Lt. Col) Danny McKnight; I didn't know him (as I was a lowly AF guy doing aerial port stuff there), but did see him and all the other guys who were a part of that heroic effort. Many years later while assigned to Special Operations Command, my wife and I became friends with the widow of Gary Gordon, Carmen; he was the SF sniper, along with Randy Shughart, that inserted into one of the downed Blackhawks to try to fend off the mob and rescue the crew (of whom only Mike Durant surived). Gordon and Shughart both knew they would likely not walk out and neither did despite fighting magnificently. Both were awarded the Medal of Honor. Carmen Gordon's common-law husband at the time I met her (and still is...they can't marry lest they nullify her benefits -- isn't THAT the way to treat the widow of MOH recipient...) is an SF officer whom I went into Northern Iraq with (a sensational man whose name I'll withhold due to operational sensitivities).
That's probably WAY more than you wanted to know, but it's a small world.
