In Response To: A Question for Strength coaches! (TIM SWORDS)
COACH SWORDS:
I personally don't have a problem with straps and I've used them periodically as a competitive lifter. However, pulls are typically trained at no more than 110% of 1-RM, as you know, so athletes should be able to use their hookgrip. With my situation at the Air Force Academy, we train between 125-150 fb athletes at one time. It's problematic to program straps into the workout with such a large number of athletes. Half of the athletes will lose their straps or leave them in the lockerroom; so it's more of a hassle and easier to exclude straps from the program. Good question and thanks for keeping the forum on track with "training" discussions.
