Comparing across "eras."

I like your reasoning and then would like to include Lee James (and perhaps Cal Shacke(sp?)).

It seems that there are 2 main criteria being "argued" about who is the best (in the US) across the different "eras". Who was best compared to the rest of the world (within a given "era") and who was best by kgs lifted. Both are very valid. Valid enough that for lifters to be compared across "eras" (I'm not sure they can be) someone needs to figure a way to quantify both criteria (IMO). Until then I don't see how they can be adequately and satisfactorily compared.

I hope this was written well enough to be clearly understandable.

I'd also like to point out that there is a natural tendency to prefer the lifters from ones "own era."
