Matt - THat is a very good post. As you know, I am not a blind defender of the OTC. (LOL) I am trying to find out more of what went on, as I am a little removed from that scene, too. I have coached multiple sports, multiple times, usually as a volunteer. At some point, someone has to be a chief and someone has to be an Indian.
IF other coaches, either at home or at the OTC in the past, have allowed lifters too much control, i.e., they can fairly much do what they want, this might be part of the problem. Athletes cannot do their own thing 100%. I am not sure if that is the issue here or not.
I think lifters should have input into their programs, but at the end of the day, someone has to make the final decision. One OTC athlete I talked with felt like there were probably two sides to this issue.
I am sure any athlete who came to train with me might not agree 100% with how I do things. However, at some point, after I have heard their ideas and thoughts, someone needs to say, "Here is what we are going to do." That has to be the coach.
I will try and see if I can hear anything more about what is going on, and why. - Marty
