Tim,

I think they're useful during strengthening/conditioning stages of training...not so much when concentrating on lifts in the month prior to competition. Alex mentioned injuries...I think that because this is an assistance movement it's important to maintain proper form [within the range of motion] with whatever load is on the bar [try not to "cheat" the movement into a high pull]. I've found that the ROM is determined by individual flexibility and hand spacing - more ROM with close grip out to a lesser ROM with a snatch grip.
