Snug fitting, yes.
Tight enough to add to what can be lifted, no.

Your experience is valid, but when you split your pants are you saying that you did not drop deeper in the squat immediately as a result? anything that is tight enough to add poundages will restrict movement (range of motion).
Again (put another way), anything that would add to how much could be lifted would take away from ones ability to move rapidly and deeply into the receiving position. Effectively negating or even reducing the final result.

"I concede you are more the expert than me, but yes---it still looks tight. Maybe it isn't?"
Perhaps I know more about todays weightlifting uniforms, but expert is pushing it. As I said it's more snug than tight.
