From what Pete said, I took it to mean that each successive generation is less inhibited than the previous one.

In the 1930s a 300lb lightweight c&j was considered the absolute limit and most lifters were psychologically limited by this...much like the sound barrier having been both a physical and psychological stopper to most humans.

The 400lb C&J was also seen as 'the absolute' in limits of human performance...until Schemansky and others began regularly increasing it.

When human beings are told that they can't go further than a specific point, ( or poundage!), most simply take it as gospel and don't dare venture to new heights. The record breaker is always the one who dares challenge the unknown.

Dave was way ahead of his time.
