He never used a belt during deadlift actually, he says it doesn't help for anyone, at all. When I asked him why it didn't help, he had me put the belt on and get in the deadlift position. When I was down with knees bent, as if I was just about to pull up, he could slip his hand right inbetween my back and the belt, how can that give you support? He also showed me that when you use a belt that has one part wider than the rest during a squat, the wider part should be across your stomach to give you support, and you're also lest likely to herniate since the pressure across your stomach is more spread out across the wide surface. I think you are right about having a strong stomach tho, he told me he could hang from a chin-up bar and keep his body totally straight, and raise his rigid body to be parrallel to the floor as if he was laying face up on a bed, still hanging from the bar.
