when comparing bench shirts why do people always bring up the pole vault example in sports evolution? to pole vault you need a pole. to bench you don't need a bench shirt. its not evolution but a different sport altogether. similar to high jump and pole vault, benchpress and shirted bench have the same goals but are 2 different sports. because of equipment.
equipment should be used and evolved 1. for protection, safety - pads, helmets, gloves, goggles 2. in sports where the equipment is fundamental for the sport itself - pole vault, hockey, golf, baseball 3. for increasing natural efficiency - shoes, cleats, chalk, speedo 4. in inventing a new sport - shirted bench, yak skiing
yes there are probably minor exceptionsif anything a bench shirt is de-evolution. its a crutch. its for our egos. its for money. sorry its not for powerlifing. who benefits from wearing an 8 ply kevlar bench shirt - your lift improves, you'll feel better about yourself, the company you bought it from makes money. but powerlifting suffers - segregation, nonacceptance as a legit sport. if you believe that a bench shirt is evolution how about hydraulics in squat suits? how about evolving the deadlift? straps for starters. then we can throw in a forklift and a crane. 600 deadlift plus another 60000 i get from a crane. yep. smells like evolution
