In Response To: 1972 Olumpic trials (Brad Reid)

Cole didn't characterized the build of a olympic lifter, being 5'11" and 22inch arms. He had a hard time with the clean, could only do a split snatch and split power/clean.
I did see him do a standing press 445lbs of a squat rack (at ASU weightroom 1972) but he didn't have the speed/quickness/or flexibility to catch a clean low in a squat position, even with olympic lifting shoes on. Now Bruce Willhellm was a good olympic lifter he was like lighting getting under the bar and did a good job competing for the USA against the world back in the early 70'ds. He did some of his lifting at ASU and i got to know him very well, great guy, first winner of the "Strongest Man Comprtition".
I know Cole always talked on taking on the big olympic Russian lifter is 6-lifts too...i would always say to Jon but the Russians don't bench HA!
