Hey! I just saw this posting on Jon Cole...I trained under Cole in the early 70'ds at Arizona State University. I was on the ASU Track & Field team then as a javelin thrower. I also remember Marv Allen around 1978-79 as Cole's lifting buddy.
Jon Cole was something else in the weightroom...i picked up lots of tips just seeing him lift. He got me to (395lb bench, 585lb squat, 500lb deadlift)...i was at 195lb body weight. I saw John do lifts like no one else could, he was such a good athlete in Track throwing the (discus 215ft, shotput 64ft, javelin 230ft). John was fast too, out running any of the ASU throwers in the 40 yd dash.
Marv Allen was one hell of a lifter too..and great at arm-wrestling...i remember in the new Activity Center weightroom at ASU Marv arm-wrestling the ASU football team and no one could even last 5-sec against him. HELL! i didn't even want to try, Lol
Jon was THE-MAN! never saw anyone like him, and i've been around lifting the past 40-years.
I saw his 901 squat and his 885 dead and 600 bench in 1972...it was AWESOME!
