I don't know the article, but telling the truth is only shitty if you "rat" and then deny you "ratted". The term rat is fifth grade and I would gladly turn your ass in if I saw you do something that would hurt someone else physically or monetarily. If you are too ashamed to man up to an action, then your fifth grade self shouldn't have done it until you were ready to be a man about it.
The term rat is only used as a derogatory term by those with a lack of morals.
