I don't think we are in diagreeance at all, BUT...it's better to have an outstanding lifter presented at a low total meet than no lifter recognized with the "too bad, you all sucked" philosophy. Outstanding lifter at a meet where no one benches more than fifty pounds is still the outstanding lifter for the day. Heck, those guys probably still trained very hard for that meet and someone happened to train a little better and a little harder, regardless of their total. I really like the idea of only giving outstanding lifter awards for youth and open, and that's it. Other than that, overall weight group through third place.
I also have no problem with everyone getting an award, if that's the promoter's perrogative. I seriously doubt that anyone with a 1100 lb. total at 195 pounds is going to consider themselves a champ. I am not for or against lifters getting handed trophies like candy. Her is why...
FOR trophies like candy...atleast the people went above and beyond sitting at home playing Nintendo, unlike most Americans nowadays. So many Aemricans nowadays are too lazy and perfectly content not trying to do anything special or try to go above and beyond getting high score on their video game. Obviously it is what a lot of lifters want or meet directors wouldn't see a need to provide it.
AGINST trophies like candy...today's America has grown to accept lazy people and has had to resort to rewarding every good effort. What happened to the days of "good job" being enough unless you REALLY went above and beyond?
Obviously a lot of lifters don't want it or it wouldn't be a hot topic on PL forums.
(If I offended anyone, I'm not really that worried about it. I am almost done with my four years and have earned the right to be blunt about my country. I also don't really like the awards for everyone but can definitely see a need for it from a business perspective.)SGT Bard Tirplett
