Mr Israel,

I have always respected your posts. . . . I think that they are insightful, balanced, and show a true appreciation for the sport of Powerlifting. . . . As such, I place true value in your opinions. . . . .

I can definitely understand where you are coming from. . . . I see SHWs squatting 800+ lbs, so my 242 is not even in the same category. . . . In no way, shape, form, or fashion do I consider myself a "Powerlifter." . . . .

However, I really do enjoy participating in the Sport, and like to do whatever I can to promote the sport. . . That is why I participate in any meet that I can, and am willing to support a Meet's administration as I am able. . . At the YMCA Nationals, I brought a platform, some equipment, and some weights on the theory that "too much is better than too little." . . .

I've been an Olympic weightlifter since 1972, and I am WELL past my prime (I'm 58 years old), and any heavy lifting I'm gonna do is well behind me by about 30 years . . . But I'm gonna keep stepping onto the platform, and I'm gonna continue to heave the bar to the best of my ability for two reasons: (1) I want to, and (2) it is way fun for me . . . When that stops, I'll find something else to do . . . :-)

In Powerlifting circles, I feel a little like the Viet Nam veteran who was a cook, hanging out with Combat Infantrymen. . . . Not in the same league, but that doesn't deny the fact that we are both Vets. . . .

Those "State" records are "World" records as well, as certified by 100% RAW. . . . I've done everything necessary to comply with their requirements. As such, I don't think I have apologize to anyone. . . Now, true, there was no records in my age-group/weight class before this meet, so lifting the empty bar would have been a WR. . . . But now there IS a WR, which gives everyone else something to shoot at. . . . . And if I'm the only old fatboy who shows up at the World Championships, then I'll be World Champion as well. . . . . THAT should get someone motivated !!! :-D

You probably speak for a lot of people who might think that a 317.5 total is ridiculous, but HEY, everything I have done is well within the rules and requirements of the 100% RAW Federation . . . .

Mr Isreal, with respect, Sir,
Jim
:-)
