Tim referred all the high school meets in Dallas this year and is known as a strict judge. I know nothing about the depths of his squats, as I have never seen him lift.
As far as Mendy goes, Mendy came to the meet with an 8 person team, including his wife to go head to head with Ernie's 10 man team from Chicago. His first goal was to work with his team, hold a bench clinc and support the meet. The post that I made about him going for the record, I did from the meet during the break in the bench presses when he announced that he was going to lift. On the 24 hour weigh in, Ernie and I weighed him in, with shorts on and he weighed 306 and by the size of his shorts, they probably weighed about 4 pounds. We had a certified scale. After working with his team all day, Mendy jumped into a borrowed shirt and decided to start heavier than the 970 he had announced because he didn't think he could touch with it. As it turned out, the shirt was lose and we got very little support from it. I now have more respect for Mendy, even though he missed this lift, he is a GO FOR IT guy, as he could have opened at 900 and won another meet, big deal, he wanted a record. He spoke to a group of Christian kids on Friday night and many of them where there to see the attempt at a 1000 even though we never announced it and Mendy never planned to do it. Also, the tv production crew was there to film his every move and it seemed like the thing to do at the time.
