Drug testing is the worst thing that ever happened to powerlifting.I think it's a mixed bag really, but on the whole, I think it has been a good thing.
Look at bodybuilding, and strongman they are far more popoular than powerlifting. Everybody knows who Mr. olyimpia, is or who the worlds strongest man is and neither one of those is drug tested. What are you basing this statement on? Recognition by the public or number of competitors?
Even in powerlifting it is the multi layer non drug tested guys that get all the coverage in the magazines.Got some examples?
Look at how many drug tested feds there is in powerlifting, it is the biggest reason that powerlifting has 100 differant feds, most of these feds claims to be drugfree.Drug testing can be a divisive (sp?) issue, but there are plenty of multi-ply organizations to go around. At least 2 split off from the APF in the last year alone. Based on recent events, why are they adding "drug-tested" divisions and single-ply divisions to some of their meets if it is such a bad thing?
All drug testing does is start a lot of controversy, and slander.I disagree. Athletes agree to compete under drug-tested conditions. A small number of vocal athletes like to beat people over the head with the whole drug-free thing. I find that behavior annoying because it should be about powerlifting first and drug testing second. There is an equally annoying group that is the exact opposite of the die-hard drug free athletes.
