I never said that you didnt know anything about benching. What I was saying is, that world class multi ply guys are handeling a lot more weight than class two, or even elite lifters are. The reason that they bomb a lot is because of the problems with getting weight to touch in their extra tight, multi ply gear, and when that weight is 600 more pounds than their own body weight, then it leaves no room for err. A class 2 lifter even in multi ply gear is not even handeling doulbe body weight, much less a weight that is 500 or 600 pounds over their own body weight. Whats even worse is a lifter like Mendelson is trying to get the weight to touch when the bar is bouncing like hell. The one raw meet he lifted in he went 2 for 3 and had no problems at all, he nailed a 715, and damn near got a 730. All im saying is you can not compare a class 2, or even a elite lifter to the likes of a monster bencher like a Scott Mendelson. Yes I agree that ego is the cause of a lot of bomb outs, but that is not what I was debating. It takes a hell of a lot of ego, and confidence to even attempt that kind of weight anyways. If he bombs in every meet he ever competes in again, the man is still not only a awesome bencher, but a smart one as well. He didnt get that strong by being stupid.
