"gear company having exclusive rights to putting on a bench show and only allowing lifters to use the gear they make. WHAT A FREAKIN JOKE!"
Typically, when a gear company has exclusive rights to a meet, that company is to be the only gear sponsor for that event. I've never seen that extend to only allowing the lifters to wear that sponsors gear.
However, I kind of like the scenario you just made up. I'd actually thought of that same idea a while back.. Say, for example, what if Inzer Advance Designs wanted to put on a high profile meet say, the RAGEin Cajun Bench Press and MAX DEADLIFT PUSH PULL in Louisiana (hence the Cajun part) and invited the top 10 benchers and deadlifters or whatever and supplied them all with the same gear, what would be the problem with that?
"Talk about bad for the sport."
Bad in what way? How would it really effect the sport in a negative way?
" If a gear company wants to put up prize money for a show that is one thing but not allowing another gear company to sell gear or have other lifters participate is just down right stupid, unsportsman like and a poor business decision."
I'm not sure how securing the ad rights for your company for an event could be a poor business decision.
In the "real world" if Coke sponsors an event, you probably won't find Pepsi at the same venue and vice versa. And when Reebok got the NFL contract, the Nike Jerseys went out the door. It's just business.
