What the hell happened?
According to Ed Pariso, the CEO of the Europa Super Show in Dallas (where we held the 2007 Clash of the Titans) Inzer Advance Designs paid him $15,000 for exclusive rights to all powerlifting events held at his 2008 expo. Even though Pariso had assured us that we'd be invited back this fall, he broke his verbal promise and took the check from Inzer. I guess Inzer's got the $ to pay to block pro raw powerlifting but he doesn't think ANY of his "sponsored" lifters are worth any cash because allegedly NO ONE gets $ from Inzer, just free bench shirts (which make Inzer more money.) And pro lifters complain that there isn't very much money in the sport? LOL.
In regards to The Olympia Expo, allegedly Peter Thorne (Inzer's official liason) began calling Weider while I was in the hospital recovering from Congestive Heart Failure. Supposedly, Thorne promised that the all-time biggest bench would take place at this year's Olympia if they let Inzer set up the show. I hope that they're going to match our $5,000 cash overall grand prize because the same benchers who could have broken the all-time shirted record (Kennelly and Mendelson) would have had the chance to make $5,000 if they'd benched at the Olympia bench contest we had lined up. Since both Kennelly and Mendelson are IAD sponsored benchers, and Inzer's apparently got $15,000 cash to throw at Ed Pariso, I'm sure that they won't mind putting up $5,000 cash as the Olympia overall prize?
The other problem with The Olympia is that one of the title expo sponsors was very unhappy that another supplement company was getting all of the positive marketing publicity from The Kings of the Bench and they were more interested in putting pressure on Weider (whom they pay tens of thousands of dollars to) to block our pro show (which was title sponsored by MHP in 2007) than they were in sponsoring the show themselves back when I pitched them in the spring of 2007. They didn't see the value in the event until AFTER the 2007 event and then they weren't willing to back track and get involved (when it's cheaper to simply complain?) So, the double combination of Peter Thorne's doubtful "guarantee" of someone breaking Kennelly 1,050 bench record and the expo main sponsor pressuring Weider to change up the bench contest spelled defeat for us.
The Clash of the Titans II and The Kings of the Bench III are still taking place............just on the west coast instead of Texas and Nevada. We'll be releasing the official information as soon as the legal contracts are completed so please stand by.
I hope that that answers your questions.
