In Response To: "Who are you, who who, who who?" (ken wheeler)

Ken,

I'll taper this off and keep it short but since you offered a direct challenge to me "Who am I!?" I'll respond in part here.

Your post contains the assumption there is a god. In order to make progress we have to move beyond that. If you impose that belief on me and the premise is at odds with mine premise I can't respond to your charges or examples. (in your case morality derived from ancient writing of a particular god). That said, I assure you the OT is riddled with horrors that any civilized human wud find abhorrent. I'll list about a dozen if you want.

One thing is apparent, you didn't read my link for thinking on the concept of morality

Anyhow... I do not believe in the gods of the Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Christians and all the rest, and i won't be popular when i state that. Scott Slatery mite concur but I'm guessing there's not one else here that will slap me on the back and buy me a protein drink. Knowing ambiguous answers and sharing them with conviction (re Rickey telling us what to expect in the Christian heaven - hey any pets allowed up there? what's the source of light if no celestial bodies?) will win a lot more friends among the unwashed than what i have to offer, an examined life.

Just to put to rest the fact that you believe your god, the one that is indigenous to your geographical area is the one true god, is the ultimate truth as you put it: it's funny, but I've never heard of a Christian saying to a Hindu "Ah, but you really do believe in Jesus Christ, you're just in denial. When are you going to stop pretending? All this worship of Vishnu is just rebelling against what you know in your heart is true!" So again, I resist being defined by what i don't believe in, since that implies there is a god not to believe in.

Call me a secular humanist of it helps you sort it out.
