what caused evolved goo (i.e. humans) to develop the need for God if in fact He doesn't exist? What primordial reasoning would cause the brain to even remotely think there was a higher creating power if there isn't one? Why would man create the concept of a being greater than himself? What "need" exists to cause that thought if the creator we "need" isn't really there?(if you answer this query you will have accomplished what many of the great atheist minds of today fail at doing). Where did morality come from if not from a God of morals? And how did this all begin? What is the cause of the anthropic universe? Finally, atheism is every bit a religion of faith as much as Christianity. It is equally a "crutch" of those who do not wish to be bound by ultimate truth. It is a religion of "don't tell me what to do" preached under the pretense of "free/rational thought". It is an intolerant religion of the greatest proportion holding a death grip on billions of people...China. It has been the cause of millions of deaths over the past 100 years alone by god-less regimes who see people simple as animals. Thus extermination of people is nothing more than killing cattle...which in fact it would be if there is no God. (why WOULD you care about genocide if there is no God...makes no logical sense). Yes, terrible things in history may be attributed to those who mistreated others and killed in God's name, no question. That in and of itself only proves, contrary to Christopher Hitchens, that men have disobeyed their God, not that He doesn't exist. And the fact still remains, those listed in the previous post of mine (response to.. 2000 year old book) were Christians, that was my point...that if not for Christianity, science would not have come as far as it did many centuries ago. God-fearing scientists were searching for answers, developing theories and conducting experiments because of their belief system. OK, one more minor historical detail, Western Civilization itself would never have developed without Christianity. So much for irrational thought. kw
