I started powerlifting in National meets in 1981. I lifted in the USPF Teen Nationals in Little Rock Arkansas. I think I took like 7th. I came back in 1982,83,84 to win 1st. In 1982 I beat a new teen lifter by the name of Garry Frank. I then lifted in ADFPA National Collegiets in 1986 and the pull record I set of 755 in the 275s still holds today. I have lifted in the Pan American games and won the gold back in like 1989 and have lifted in several ADFPA Nationals back in the late 80s early 90s. In 1986 I lifted and got fourth against the great John Kuc, and I know a new comer Bull Stewart was there as well. I got to see some great lifters when I was a kid here in the midwest like Jim Cash,The guy was built like a bodybuilder and pulled in the 840s at 220. Roy Stienacher a SHW out of Derby Kansas.First guy I saw bench 650 raw in a tank top in the early 80s. He squatted in the 900s back then and pulled in the mid 700s. I was present at a meet in the early 80s when a young man by the name of Rickey Crain came to do some pulls as a guest lifter. I have lifted in several feds and won some NASA Nationals back in the early 90s when there was like 5-7 lifters deep in each class. Guys like Bill Nichols, Curtis Payne, Vic Kennedy, I have also lifted in several of the Police and fire world games in the 80s and 90s. The last 10 or so years I have been lifting APA and AAPF and had a best total of 2195 at age 43 and just hit a USPF meet in single ply and hit a 2070 pound total. So far as a drug free master I have hit best lifts of 835 squat, 600 bench and 820 pull and after 28 years am still going strong. Ken Ufford
