He was nowhere near his best. Look at his youtube training videos from a few weeks ago compared to his attempts yesterday. He was clearly taking conservative attempts. I watched this meet in the front row. Tony C's third attempt squat and bench lifts were limit lifts for him this day. Mike motored up his third attempts faster than flies on a turd. He left about 30-40 lbs on the platform in the squat and bench each. I think his openers would have beat Tony. If this kid gets in a real gym with real training partners, no one will come anywhere near him.
Unfortunately, many people continue to not give this guy any credit. Some guys on the plwatch thread last week commenting on his youtube videos were stating he's not a threat to Tony C. In addition, the announcer yesterday made the comment "Let's see if this kid is for real" when he was setting up his opening squat attempt. Throughout the meet, the announcer kept stating how Tony has been in these battles many times before and has pulled through for the win. It seems nobody wants to see this kid do well.
For those of you stating he needs to do this in a National meet, if I understand this kids history, he's a Jr World champ. He has some big meet experience. In addition, the venue at the Arnold sas packed. Not WPO standing room only, but the room was full and the best lifters in this fed were going at it. I would say the pressure in this meet would equal a Nationals meet. If this kid stays healthy, no one will touch him.
