This is a very slippery slope

Courtney... with all due respect, I am perplexed by your stance on the Monolift. Let's imagine what would actually happen if the USPF adopted full use of the Mono. The first thing you would see is a mass exodus of traditionalists, which would include both lifters and administrators/judges. Yes... there would be some crossover from the unlimited feds, but (IMHO) not enough to plug the gap. I see far too many variables preventing the majority from crossing the lines (ie. gear and judging standards).

Now, let's say my prediction is completely wrong, and the mono brings in scores of lifters and state chairs from the unlimited feds. This is the perfect recipe for the disintegration of the rules of performance. You will have an influx lifters, admin, and judges from the APF, IPA, UPA, etc. With them, they will carry their perceptions of what powerlifting ought to be, which (for better or worse) is in stark contrast to the perceptions currently held by most members in the USPF. And with this new change in ideology, it will only be a matter of time, before the USPF becomes a carbon copy of any one of the unlimited feds already in existence.

Lastly, I want to say that it seems that there was some other agenda in getting the mono passed at the 2007 National meeting. It was agreed that the arms would remain in a fixed position, and that is the only reason it passed. The reason to allow it at all was to give outside meet directors (who already had a mono) a chance to use the apparatus. This was especially more convenient for those running duel sanctioned meets. Now it seems that this simply a way to get the door open for the mono. I, for one, hope that EC members think long and hard before they continue down this path. There are other ways to build the federation, without alienating the priciples on which we were founded.
