In Response To: credo means "To believe and not I believe. (Bob Baker)

[..from Latin credo, I believe (the first word of the Apostles' Creed or the Nicene Creed), first person sing. present tense of credere, to believe; see kerd- in Indo-European roots.]
Hey, if we're going to get picky about our Latin, lets do it right. LOL.. this is damn highbrow stuff for powerlifters!

Look, I like Ernie too and, Latin grammar aside, he does believe in what he's doing with the kids with his C.R.E.D.O. work. His CREDO competitions are not intended to be classical powerlifting meets. They are more athletic events for reps(hence the touch and go for the bench and D/L)designed to instill a sense of accomplishment and teamwork for these kids. Its also, I beleive, a healthier way to introduce some of these younger kids (and maybe a few coaches as well) to the benefits of proper strength training. And from what I understand, no kid will ever be turned away from a CREDO meet for lack of an entry fee. Talk to Ernie for 5 minutes and you'll know that's where his focus is...much more so than his new federations.

As far as the new equipment rule go for the powerlifting end of things, as others have said, the use of equipment in the name of protection is a door that was opened long ago and I guess Ernie is just stepping a little farther through..
In theory, wraps on the elbow can reduce tendonitis and other damage to the joint, while using straps could reduce the chance of bicep tears.
Do I plan on taking advantage of the new rules? Naw...I still feel a bit guilty about my single ply stuff as it is..LOL
On the other hand, fair is fair... He is promoting raw lifting in his new feds as well.

Anyway, good luck to all where ever and however you choose to lift.

Train hard, Lift Big, Be Well, and Have Some Fun.
